The Los Angeles Kings were founded in 1967 as one of the six expansion teams of the '67 NHL Expansion. In 1988 the Kings traded with Edmonton for "The Great One" Wayne Gretzky, which raised the popularity of hockey in L.A., as well as the rest of the southwest. The Kings have won the Stanley Cup twice (as of 2023).
